About Us

Tricky Wakesurf School are a husband and wife team that fell in love with wakesurfing and our goal is to share our passion for this sport.  We intend to help grow inland surfing in the Okanagan and build a surf community with others that share the same passion. Wakesurfing is a fun activity and you don’t need an ocean outside your front door. We are committed to teaching people the easiest way to get up and ride a wave, no matter what your experience level is. We can make your surf adventure happen today.

Originally from New Brunswick. I played hockey growing up. Hockey taught me about team work and the importance of proper instruction and how coaching can improve the progression of any athlete. Moving out to Western Canada in the mid 90’s gave me the chance to excel at individual sports, like mountain biking and snowboarding. Competing in both sports taught me that cross training has it’s benefits for developing skills to become a better athlete. Snowboarding quickly became my number 1 passion and strongest discipline. Pursuing competitions and following the instructor side of snowboarding, I found myself qualifying for National Events and became a Level 4 Snowboard Instructor. Working at Sunshine Village Ski Resort for 6 years taught me more about being an instructor and also more about how coaching can be a part of the journey in many athlete’s lives.

In recent years I found myself moving away from the mountains in the summer months. Living in the Okanagan definitely makes wakesurfing enjoyable and has given me a new discipline to focus on. I relish being able to enjoy this new sport with friends and family while it still challenges me to improve individually. Wakesurfing is fulfilling and has become my first choice of activity now. The summer of 2017 was an exceptional year for me. Deciding to compete was exciting and nerveracking at times but proved to be successful. Finishing the season undefeated in Masters Men Skim division was a highlight and then qualifying to the Worlds Finals and getting 1st place has given me the courage to compete again. 2018 should be a bigger challenge testing my skills in the Outlaw division (semi-pro).

Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Canada I spent my summers in the beautiful Okanagan Valley of British Columbia. Playing on the water as a kid turned into competitive waterskiing as a teenager and young adult. I competed at the BC Summer Games in slalom, trick and jump. I then spent my thirties in Golden, BC exploring the mountains, both skiing and snowboarding. Now I have found  my way back to the Okanagan and picked up wakeboarding and wakesurfing.

With the low risk and and gentle impact of wakesurfing it really won my heart. Because of my competitive nature I decided to compete in summer of 2017. This lead to travelling and meet amazing other talented surfers from all around the world. I landed top podium spot in my division at every event including the World Championship. It was very exciting times having the Worlds in Kelowna, BC, Canada.

I have always had a passion for watersports but wakesurfing has given me another level of love and passion. This is what I truly love to do. I want to be a part of this new and growing sport. It is an amazingly family and kid friendly sport. I believe in training, educating and progressing of all sports, which has taken me to people I look up to for tips and coaching. [read more]

We have the latest and greatest boat with our 2018 Ri237 Centurion World Championship Boat. It boosts the best endless wave. This is done by the new Opti-Vhull and 5100 lbs of ballast that is quickly filled by it’s signature Ramfill in 45 seconds. The boat itself is almost 24 feet long and weighs 5450 lbs. The Quick Surf Pro System  allows us to surf on either side of the boat in just 4 seconds. The best thing about Quick Surf System is that it allows us to run even ballast on both sides without having to list the boat to one side, making your experience more comfortable.

We are proud to ride on locally made Canadian boards from Kanuk Board Company. These are handcrafted surf and skim boards from Chillawack, BC. We carry a variety of Kanuk boards. If we don’t have what you are looking for call ahead and we will try and get it for you. Having a board that suits your size and style makes your surf experience that much better and more fun to shred that wave.
